The first cast for the morning got the guys screaming, a sky rocketing mackerel launched on the lure and screamed off with line before we subdued him for a picture and set him free. Not a bad start and with excitement still high we set ourselves for another drift, second cast saw an awesome fish from the bommie edge and absolutely destroyed the lure and 32kg later a solid GTs was held up for pictures…….

Marion/Elusive Reef August 2012

The Easter Bunny definitely delivered his fair share this month with wild weather and hungry fish all in the same month. April saw 40kilo wrasse trying to destroy poppers in the shallows along with packs of GT’s screaming for attention on the ledges and not to mention giant spannish mackerel up to 35 kilos making an appearance. Fresh breeze one week followed by absolute glass out the next, nevertheless this didn’t affect the fishing action at all and steady numbers of fish were caught over April…….

The fishing we experienced over the past two weeks up at Jewell reef was nothing short of amazing, everything from the shallow flats fishing to the heavy tackle Black Marlin to the GTs and everything else in between. The special things about this area at this time of the year are the variety of fish available and the quantities, that’s not to mention that it is the best place in the world to catch 1000lb Black Marlin and the spawning aggregations of fish that only gather around a 5 mile area here at this time of the year….

Damon spotted a piece of reef as they flew over that just spelled FISH and he wasted no time in getting there, it was on fire and they were seeing fish all over the place.
