Everyone wants to know when is the best time of year to fish with us?
It’s easy, anytime between March – December is prime time, because we move around over 2000nm of coastline, following the fish, and putting you in the right spot all year.

We only fish each section of reef for a brief period each year, in keeping with the size of the reef
Each location we fish is only getting 2-3 weeks of fishing pressure per year because we move around over such a large area. Many locations might only be visited once per year.
The weather and temperature changes throughout the year, but if you book a trip between March – December, you can be assured that you’re in the right place at the right time. We do operate other more “exploratory” trips sometimes in Jan-Feb.
Each location we fish is different, and all have special features that require us to be there at the right time of year. We’ve learned when to be in each location through years of experience, so you can be sure that all the datesd we have listed will provide excellent fishing.
Many people ask when is the calmest time of year. The truth is that weather is unpredictable and there is no time that we can guarantee any particular type of weather. But what we do is fish more protected areas at times when the weather is unpredictable, and fish areas with less shelter when the weather is more predictable. This generally means you’re fishing in comfortable conditions most of the time, but there will always be exceptions to this, as like everywhere else in the world, we are also at the mercy of the weather. We just make sure we are in the right location with the right boats, at the right time, to be able to work around most weathr conditions.

Seasonal Info March-August

This time of year generally sees us fishing the Bugatti/Elusive area, doing mothership drive out trips, and fly out charters to the extremities of the reef systems. In either July or August we also mix in a split reef trip to either Marion or Frederick Reefs to target plague proportions of wahoo that inhabit those reefs.

March-May is reasonably warm weather with daytime temps around 25-30 degrees celcius. Night time tempos can get down to 17-18 degrees celcius. The average 3pm wind speed, averaged across the whole month, from the bureau of meteorology at this time of year is 13-15kn for this general area.

June-August can be a little colder, with daytime temps around 22-28 celcius, and night time temps never getting much below 16 celcius. The average 3pm wind speed, averaged across the whole month, from the bureau of meteorology at this time of year is 11-14kn for the general area we visit.

Seasonal Info September-December

Around this time of year we usually head north to do our Bligh Reef, Jewell Reef, Diamond Islets or Osprey Reef trips. There is a huge variety of options at this time of year, and in Australia, this time of year is Spring, coming into Summer.

September-October can start to get quite warm, with a daily temperature range from 20-30 degrees celcius. There is usually not a lot of rain at this time of year. The average 3pm wind speed, averaged across the whole month, from the bureau of meteorology at this time of year is 15kn for the area we tend to visit.

November-December can get hot depending on where we visit, but the average wind speed is a little lower. Expect daily temperatures from 22-34 degrees celcius. The average 3pm wind speed, averaged across the whole month, from the bureau of meteorology at this time of year is 8-14kn and depends a lot on the exact location we’re at during this period.
